final project parts 1 and 2

Charlie Connelly

1. PageRank Technology: PageRank reflects our view of the importance of web pages by considering more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms. Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results.

PageRank also considers the importance of each page that casts a vote, as votes from some pages are considered to have greater value, thus giving the linked page greater value. We have always taken a pragmatic approach to help improve search quality and create useful products, and our technology uses the collective intelligence of the web to determine a page's importance.

2. grass snake, showed searches about snakes.

snake grass, showed searches about grass, snakes, and the phrase "snake in the grass."

snake in the grass, showed searches of the idiom, and few results of snakes and grass.

snake+in+the+grass, showed searches of snakes, grass and the idiom.

"snake in the grass", showed searches of those the same as, snake+in+the+grass.

3a. The searches came out the same for the searches.

3b. putting * * in the middle of someone's name in a search finds searches with words in the middle of the person's name.

Part 2

The internet was originally a U.S.military project called ARPANET on 1969. The internet and the World Wide Web are 2 different things. The internet is the interlock of computer which gives the ability for information to be transmitted. Search engines send out things called "spiders" to go through every web page and find the top/most wanted searches and brings the information to the search engines. Many searches have different amounts of web pages though, google has the most with 8.1 billion web pages, and Ask Jeeves is one of the lowest with 2.5 billion. There aren't many similar web pages between these different search engines. Some websites are not available from search engines such as JSTOR or LexisNexis. Many techniques that can be used such as Phrase searching, Truncation, Boolean operators, and Search limits. Phrase searching allows you to find two or more words together using quotation marks (" "). Truncation searches by using characters as blank spaces. Boolean operators allows us to mix search terms using things such as AND, OR, NOT. Search limits help to narrow down searches to specific topics by using things such as google's advanced search. Phrase searching is useful when looking for specific words/phrase to help narrow down a search. it's better to search for sources instead of just information. It's better to try and narrow a topic down by using those different search options, because it helps making the sources become to broad and generalized.

story 3 narrative

you humans are destroying our homes. You left less than 100 of us to die. apparently you humans still do not realize that your leaving you country's bird on the extremely endangered species list by destroying our homes and turning them into industrial sites that leave the air we breathe thin. if you humans give our species a chance for us to repopulate maybe we can be taken off the endangered species list. If we were actually able to defend ourselves how would you like if we destroyed your cities and homes to let the forest grow back sqwaauk!!
If we could find peace and let us have our homes in a stable environment and you have your own area were you could have your industrial sites and homes. What gives you the right to take destroy our homes and our species? You have no right.

digital story 2 narrative

sports are some of the things that shaped my life and showed who i am today. I am an all around athlete. I'm good at a lot of sports and if there was a sport that i never played before i can lean to play and become a good player quickly. baseball and basketball were to sports that i played almost my entire life. First there was baseball. my first and second year of baseball we lost both the seasons and my third year of baseball which was also my first year of basketball we won the championship. That same year i started basketball and i was in extreme physical training. i was physically fit and i always participated in any sports event in my school. For each year of basketball our team was the most aggressive and won all three years that i played. all the sports that i continued to play after that are helping me become physically fit for what i want to be when im older: a mma fighter. all my years of training to be an athlete has helped me find what i wanted to be and found to be most entertaining.

graduate profile reflection

My first digital story showed how the world has changed over the years. It shows that i'm culturally aware of our this generation. It shows that make a notice to most of the changes in our world today and also past generations. it shows that our generation has changed so much in the past 60 years. technological advances made an extreme change in the past generations to ours. before there was no such this as internet and blogs and now almost everyone who knows how to do the simplest of actions with a computer know how to spread information quickly. Almost everyone has a digital device and before they were hard to come by or were too expensive to the public.

story script

Our generation is something that has been identified by change. My generation has been going through many technologicalclimatic, and musical changes. global warming was a big change in the world, people started to become mentally aware that they are harming the earth atmosphere which can cause the world to go through changes that it isnt used to. The world atmosphere has changed from all of the factories and vehicles used to make life easier but also harm us at the same time. Another change that our generation has been going through is the types of music we listen to. Our generations music is hip hop, pop, and rap and some amount of rock. previous generations has been classified as classic rock and blues.
The world has gone through so many changes of music from spiritual music to rap. Another change the world is going through is technological changes. Back then in the 70's obtaining a computer was a luxery and there was no internet. Every thing was low tech. Now if we come to our generation everywhere you go you ill find some sort of advanced technolgoy. cars even have computers in it now. Alot of new devices are portable and have touch screens instead of using keypads. Phones are held by almost everyone in middle school. Graphics are made so technologically advanced for video games to make them as realistic as possible. our generation has had gone through many changes to make life of people as easy and as comfortable as possible.
